Base metals strengthen on global cues

Base metals rose by up to Rs 5 per kg in the local non-ferrous metal market today on buying by stockists influenced by a firm overseas trend. 

Traders said sustained buying by stockists influenced by a firming global trend mainly led to rise in base metal prices. 

Meanwhile, copper for three-month delivery rose 1.1 per cent to $9,444.50 and nickel climbed two per cent to $25,800 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange. 

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap remained in demand and advanced by Rs 5 each to Rs 522, Rs 545 and Rs 506 per kg, respectively. 

 

Nickel (4x4) followed suit and traded higher by the same margin to Rs 1,082-1,084 per kg.

In line with the general firming trend, zinc ingot, lead ingot and lead imported were also enquired higher by Rs 2 each to Rs 134.50, Rs 143 and Rs 145 per kg, respectively.
