Base metals strengthen on industrial demand, global cues

Supported by pick up in industrial demand and firming in global markets, select base metals remained firm and ended up to Rs 8 higher per kg in the wholesale non-ferrous metal market today.

Trading sentiment remained firm on the back of pick up in industrial demand from consuming industries and reports of firming trend in base metals overseas after the US Federal Reserve said it was willing to ease monetary policy to boost the economy, raising hopes of pick up in demand for the metal.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap traded Rs 3 each higher at Rs 406, Rs 425 and Rs 386, while nickel (4x4) by Rs 8 to Rs 953-957 per kg, respectively.
