Base metals strengthen on industrial demand, global cues

Base metals prices recovered by up to Rs 5 per kg in the local non-ferrous metal market today on pick-up in industrial demand amid a firming global trend.

Meanwhile, copper rose 0.5%, to $8,875.50 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

Trading sentiment bolstered after copper advanced in global markets as Chinese buying continued to draw down Asian inventories in warehouses monitored by the London Metal Exchange.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap were up by Rs 2 each to Rs 519, Rs 542 and Rs 504 per kg, respectively.   

Nickel (4x4) followed suit and traded higher by Rs 5 to Rs 1,070-1,072 per kg. Zinc ingot, lead ingot and lead imported also traded higher by Rs 2 each to Rs 134.50, Rs 142 and Rs 147 per kg, respectively.
