Bharti Airtel gains on highest number of new rural subscribers in April

Bharti Airtel reclaimed top position as the largest operator in the rural sector, displacing Vodafone India.

Bharti Airtel is trading higher 4% to Rs 310 after the company reclaimed top position as the largest operator in the rural sector, displacing Vodafone India, by adding 1.66 million subscribers net.

The rural India has added a total 3.8 million subscribers during the last month, according to data collated by the Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI).

However, on an all-India basis, Bharti added 601,252 subscribers in April, and had lost around a million customers in urban areas, the telecom association said.

The stock opened at Rs 300 and hit a high of Rs 311 on NSE. A combined 1.92 million shares have changed hands on the counter so far on NSE and BSE.
