Bharti rings in gains on acquisition buzz

Bharti ended 2.5% or 8.5 points higher at Rs 343 on the BSE. The stock had opened at Rs 336 and touched a high of Rs 351 and a low of Rs 336 during the day.

Bharti Airtel is trading higher by 3% on the BSE on reports that it may bid for Luxembourg-based telecom firm Millicom's operations in Sri Lanka. The stock had opened at Rs 336, and has touched a high of Rs 349 and a low of Rs 336 thus far.

"We are considering it... That much I can say," Bharti Airtel Chief Executive Manoj Kohli told reporters on the sidelines of an AIMA event.

 

Bharti already operates mobile services in Sri Lanka.

The Nasdaq-listed Millicom provides prepaid cellular services to more than 30 million customers in 16 emerging markets of Latin America, Africa and Asia.
