BHEL rose 5.37 per cent to Rs 1,222.65 compared with its previous close of Rs 1,160.35. The stock hit a high of Rs 1,244 which is a lifetime high. Around 1.71 lakh shares were traded on BSE today.

Today's surge in the stock was after its chairman and managing director said at the company's AGM that it expects to achieve a healthy top and bottomline growth in 2005-06.

The company has a very strong order book position and analysts expect the order flow to be strong in the future due to the government's thrust on the power sector.
