Bids called for import of 1.38 lakh tn yellow peas, pulses

State-run trading company PEC has invited global bids for importing 1.38 lakh tonnes of yellow peas and pulses of different varieties to be delivered between October and December this year. 

The bidding will close on September 27 and a decision on award of contracts will be taken on the same day, the company said on its website.

The PEC will import one lakh tonnes of yellow peas. The yellow peas are of Canadian origin and belong to the crop year 2010. 

Bidders should source 50,000 tonnes of yellow peas at Mumbai port between October and November this year while shipment of another 50,000 tonnes of peas is also to be done at Mumbai port between November and December 2010.

 

PEC has also floated global tender for the import of 38,000 tonnes of pulses of different varieties to be delivered between October and December this year.

The pulses of the crop year 2010 belong to Myanmar, Tanzania, Malawi, Australia, Canada and the US are to be shipped to ports of Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

The pulses to be imported included 18,000 tonnes of toor, 6,000 tonnes each of urad and green lentils and 4,000 tonnes each of desi chick peas (chana) and red lentils.

India imports 3-4 million tonnes of pulses every year, as domestic supply is short of demand.
