Black pepper rises on higher offtake, copra declines

Black pepper prices rose at the spices market here today due to brisk buying by stockists bulk consumers ahead of the festive season amid higher export demand.

Meanwhile, copra Alapuzha declined on subdued demand from retailers and millers. Black pepper gained by Rs 2/4 per kilo to Rs 306/323 from last Friday's closing level of Rs 302/321.   

However, copra office Alapuzha dropped by Rs 100 per quintal to Rs 6,400 as compared to Rs 6,500 previously.

Rest all other spices closed stable in the absence of any worthwhile buying activity.

The following are today's closing rates for various spices in rupees, with the previous rate given in brackets: 

 

Black pepper (per kg) 306/323 (302/321), ginger bleached (per kg) 165 (165), ginger unbleached (per kg) 180 (180), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 6,400 (6,500)

copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 6,300 (6,300), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 9,600 (9,600) and copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 7,800 (7,800)
