Black pepper rises on steady demand

Pepper prices rose in an otherwise steady spices market here today due to consisitent buying from stockists and traders amidst growing export demand.

Black pepper firmed up by Rs 2/4 per kilo to Rs 285/303 from Thursday's closing level of Rs 281/301.

Meanwhile, there was no trading in copra office Alapuzha and copra office Kozhikode due to closure of markets.

Following are today's closing rates in Rs, with the previous rates in brackets:

Black pepper (per kg) 285/303 (281/301), ginger bleached (per kg) 170 (170), ginger unbleached (per kg) 200 (200), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) Closed (6,800)

copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) Closed (6,700), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 8,200 (8,200) and copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 7,800 (7,800)
