Broader indices advance in flat markets

The markets are trading flat, Sensex is up 8 points at 20,176 and Nifty is at 6080 up merly 4 points.

Cipla leads the Sensex gainers charts, the stock is trading at Rs 333 up 1.8% followed by Bharti Airtel, ACC, ICICI Bank, Hero Honda, Reliance Communication and Maruti Suzuki up more than 1% each. However, Infosys is the top loser among the Sensex stocks down 2.15% at Rs 3040 followed by Tata Power, Hindalco Industries, ITC and Hindustan Unilever.

Meanwhile, the broader markets have outperformed the benchmark indices, the mid-cap and small-cap indices are up more than 1% each. The mid-cap index is at 8376 up 104 points and small-cap index is at 10,732 up 118 points. The BSE 500 breadth is extremely positive as 383 stocks are advancing and 112 stocks are declining.

 

Motilal Oswal is the top gainer among the mid-caps followed by Biocon, ING Vysya Bank, Man Infraconstruction, Coromandel International and Pipavav Shipyard up more than 4.5% each.

Among the Small-cap stocks, Prakash Steelage leads the rally has gained 14% at Rs
155, followed by Steel Strip Wheels, Pradip Overseas, Visa Steel and Indosolar.

Heavy profit booking is visible in IT, Metal and FMCG stocks. The IT index is down 1.39% or 85 points at 6067.

BSE Market breadth is extremely positive, as 1864 stocks are advancing and 988 stocks are declining.
