BSE IT index hits record high; Geometric soars 14%

TCS, HCL Technologies and MindTree have hit their respective lifetime highs on BSE.

Shares of information technology (IT) are in demand with the S&P BSE IT index hits a record high in otherwise subdued market. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HCL Technologies and MindTree have hit their respective lifetime highs.

At 1130 hours, S&P BSE IT index was up 1% or 67 points at 10,610.47, compared to 0.25% decline in benchmark S&P BSE Sensex. It touched a record high of 10,682.99 in intra-day deal today.

Shares of mid-cap IT company Geometric has rallied 14% to Rs 173, also its record high on National Stock Exchange, on back of heavy volumes.

The stock opened at Rs 152 and hit a low of Rs 150 so far. The trading volumes on the counter surged over three-fold with a combined 4.41 million shares representing 7% of total equity of Geometric changed hands till 1125 hours on NSE and BSE.

Zen Technologies is locked in upper circuit of 20% at Rs 186, extending its past two day’s rally on BSE.

The stock is currently trading at its 52-week high and has surged 72% in past two trading sessions from Rs 108 on September 19, after the company said the total value of orders pending as on date is Rs 170.68 crore. It includes the annual maintenance contracts (AMCs) of Rs 82.74 crore.

Orders worth approximately Rs 85 crore, out of the above, are expected to be executed within next 2 to 3 quarters, Zen Technologies, IT software products firm said in a press release.

Polaris Financial Technologies, R S Software, Infinite Computer Solutions (India) and Nucleus Software Exports are among other small-cap IT shares trading higher between 5-6%.
