BSE's index arm launches 19 new indices

Existing indices in which there is an overlap will be replaced by the new indices

Asia Index Private Limited, the joint venture between S&P Dow Jones Indices and BSE, has launched 19 new indices. This includes the S&P BSE AllCap index, some sectoral indices as well as three separate strategy indices.

The AllCap index includes 700 stocks that account for 95 per cent of the total market capitalisation of the exchange. Other indices include further specialised indices such as the ‘Large MidCap’ and ‘MidSmallCap’ indices.

There are also sectoral indices to cover health care, industrials and information technology. Existing indices in which there is an overlap will be replaced by the new indices, said a statement.

“The Indian equity market has been one of the most important destinations among global investors,” said Alka Banerjee, chief executive officer, Asia Index Private Limited in the statement.

“The latest launches will provide investors the much-needed set of tools to make the most of Indian equity market,” said Ashish Chauhan, managing director and chief executive officer,  BSE.

The strategy indices include two for those taking a short position. This includes the S&P BSE Sensex 1x Inverse Daily and the S&P BSE Sensex 2x Inverse Daily. There is also the  S&P BSE Sensex 2x Leverage Daily, which is for  long positions.

Indices are available in both rupee and dollar currencies.
