Bt Cotton Maker Claims Higher Yield

Mahyco Monsanto Biotech (MMB) has said that an additional income of Rs 7,000 per acre was generated for farmers who harvested genetically modified (GM) cotton in the last kharif season.

The farmers reported a 65-70 per cent reduction in the use of pesticides leading to increase in income due to inbuilt protection against bollworm in the bollgard Bt cotton.

The average reduction in pesticide use per acre in five states has been Rs 770 along with 3.24 quintals per acre increase in yield which has resulted in an increase of farmers
