The future of the much awaited Calcutta Leather Complex (CLC) looks uncertain as the Supreme Court deadline of October 31 for completing infrastructure at the venue approaches.
The apex court had directed the CLC co-promoters, government of West Bengal (GoWB) and the executing BOT party M L Dalmiya, to provide land, power, water, road and common effluent treatment plant (CETP) for 523 tanneries. These are required to relocate their units from Topsia, Tiljala and Tangra in Kolkata to CLC once infrastructure is ready.
The case will again be heard on November 22 when the court would take stock of the situation. Tanners in the city complained to Business Standard that on visiting the site, they found that water and power supply provided on-site were insufficient even to carry out construction at the venue.
