Cardamom prices rose by Rs 5.20 to Rs 613.90 per kg in futures trade today, extending their gains for the third straight session on the back of a pick-up in demand in the spot market amid the ongoing marriage season.
Tight supply due to restricted arrivals from producing regions also supported the upside in cardamom prices in futures trade here.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in December gained Rs 5.20, or 0.85%, to Rs 613.90 per kg, with an open interest for 565 lots.
In a similar fashion, the spice for January contract delivery gained Rs 3.90, or 0.62%, to Rs 636 per kg in 153 lots.
Market analysts said a pick-up in demand in the spot market for the ongoing marriage season and lower arrivals from producing regions mainly pushed up cardamom prices in futures trade.
