Cardamom prices plunged by Rs 50.70 to Rs 1639.30 per kg in futures trade today as speculators booked profits at existing higher levels.

Increased arrivals from the producing belts at spot markets also put pressure on cardamom prices in futures trade.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, the cardamom for July month contract plunged by Rs 50.70, or by 3 per cent to Rs 1639.30 per kg with an open interest of 1326 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in August contract fell by Rs 14.70, or by 0.98 per cent to Rs 1483.10 per kg in 863 lots.

Analysts said profit taking by speculators at existing higher levels mainly pulled down cardamom prices at futures trade.

They said fall in demand amid increased arrivals in spot markets further fuelled the down-trend.
