Cardamom prices fell by Rs 48, or three per cent, to Rs 1,552.20 per kg in the futures trading today on the back of profit booking by speculators at existing higher levels amid subdued demand in the spot market.

Fresh arrivals in the spot market from producing regions also put pressure on the cardamom prices at futures market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange platform, cardamom for far August-month contract fell by Rs 48, or three per cent, to Rs 1,552.20 per kg, with a business turnover of 77 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in September contract declined by Rs 41.90, or three per cent, to Rs 1,356 per kg, with a trading volume of 24 lots, while October contract eased by Rs 38.10, or three per cent, to Rs 1,232.60 per kg, with a business turnover of 23 lots.

Analysts said fall in demand at existing higher levels, against fresh arrivals in the physical market, led to a fall in cardamom prices at futures trade.
