Cardamom prices rose by Rs 17.20 to Rs 852.20 per kg in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions, supported by a rise in spot market demand against restricted supply.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in August contract rose by Rs 17.20, or 2.05% to Rs 852.20 per kg, with a trading volume of 60 lots.

The cardamom prices for July delivery moved up by Rs 14, or 1.76% to Rs 809 per kg, with a business volume of 195 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in June gained Rs 10.30, or 1.40% to Rs 745 per kg in 283 lots.

Market analysts said the cardamom futures prices rose sharply due to pick-up in demand in the spot market against restricted arrivals from producing belts.
