Cardamom prices rose by Rs 6.50 to Rs 823.70 per kg in futures trade today after speculators enlarged their positions, driven by rising spot market demand.

Restricted arrivals from producing regions also supported the uptrend.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in July surged by Rs 6.50, or 0.79%, to Rs 823.70 per kg, with a trading volume of 218 lots.

The spice for delivery in September also traded Rs 6.20, or 0.69%, higher at Rs 896.10 per kg, with a business volume of 53 lots. Similarly, prices for August delivery moved up by Rs 5.80, or 0.67%, to Rs 870 per kg, with an open interest of 111 lots.

Traders said rising demand in spot market against restricted arrivals from southern producing regions mainly pushed up cardamom prices at futures market.
