Cardamom prices fell by Rs 6.90 to Rs 1,000 per kg in futures trading today on continued profit-booking by speculators, driven by a weakening spot markets trend on sluggish demand.
Increased arrivals in the physical market from producing belts also put pressure on cardamom futures prices.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in July fell by Rs 6.90, or 0.69% to Rs 1,000 per kg, with a business turnover of four lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in June declined by Rs 5.50, or 0.55 per cent to Rs 993 per kg, with a business volume of four lots.
Cardamom prices for delivery in May shed Rs 2.10, or 0.22% to Rs 967.10 per kg, with an open interest of a single lot.
Analysts said besides continued profit-booking by speculators, sluggish demand at existing higher levels against increased arrivals in the physical market led to the fall in cardamom prices at futures trade.
