Cardamom prices fell by Rs 19.30 to Rs 1,086.50 per kg in futures trade today as speculators preferred to book profits, triggered by subdued spot demand.

Increased arrivals from the producing regions also put pressure on the cardamom prices in futures trade.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in April declined by Rs 19.30, or 1.74 per cent, to Rs 1,086.50 per kg, with a business volume of 149 lots. The spice for delivery in May shed Rs 16.20, or 1.43 per cent, to Rs 1,112 per kg, with an open interest of 46 lots.

Likewise, cardamom for delivery in June eased by Rs 15.10, or 1.33 per cent, to Rs 1,120 per kg, with a trade volume of 21 lots.

Traders said besides profit booking by speculators at existing higher levels, fall in demand in spot market led to the fall in cardamom futures prices.
