Cardamom prices rose by Rs 12 to Rs 775.80 per kg in futures trade today largely on the back of strong demand against the restricted supply in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom futures for delivery in June rose by Rs 12, or 1.57% to Rs 775.80 per kg, with a trading volume of 390 lots.

Cardamom for July delivery rose by Rs 10.30, or 1.23% to Rs 845.60 per kg in 345 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in August rose by Rs 9.90, or 1.13% to Rs 889 per kg, with a business turnover of 60 lots.

Market analysts said the rise in cardamom futures prices was due to strong domestic and export demand amid low stocks followed by restricted supply.

Lower arrivals in the physical markets further fuelled the gains in futures prices of cardamom, they added.
