Cardamom futures prices rose by Rs 8.90 to Rs 1,630 per kg in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions on the back of firming trend at the spot market on better demand.

Tight stocks in the market following restricted arrivals further fueled the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, cardamom for delivery in April rose by Rs 8.90, or 0.55 per cent, to Rs 1,630 per kg, with a business turnover of just one lot.

Likewise, the spice for delivery in February contract gained Rs 7.90, or 0.52 per cent, to Rs 1,529 per kg, with an open interest of just one lot.

Market analysts said rise in cardamom futures prices was mostly attributed to a rise in domestic demand for the ongoing marriage season, amid restricted supplies from the producing region.
