Cardamom prices moved up by Rs 24, or 1.89 per cent, to Rs 1293.10 per kg in futures trade today, as traders and speculators built fresh positions, on hopes that demand might rise in the spot market.

Lower arrivals at spot markets from the producing regions also influenced the rise in prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, cardamom for September-month rose Rs 24, or 1.89 per cent, to Rs 1,293.10 per kg, with an open interest of 2,382 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in October-month edged up by Rs 23.20, or 2.04 per cent, to Rs 1,163 per kg, with an open interest of 1,793 lots.

Traders said building up of fresh positions by speculators on hopes of pick up in demand in the spot market, against restricted arrivals caused the rise in cardamom futures prices.
