Cardamom futures prices spurted by Rs 31.80 to Rs 1,397 per kg today, as speculators created fresh positions, driven by a strong demand in the spot market.

Restricted arrivals from producing regions too influenced cardamom prices at the futures trade here.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, cardamom for delivery in March contract rose by Rs 31.80, or 2.33 per cent, to Rs 1,397 per kg, with a business volume of a lot.

Likewise, the spice for delivery in February contract went up by Rs 24.60, or 1.87 per cent, to Rs 1,343 per kg, with a business volume of single lot.

Traders said strong demand in the spot market due to the ongoing marriage season, amid restricted arrivals from Southern producing regions, led to an upsurge in cardamom futures prices.
