Cardamom prices rose by Rs 25.30 to Rs 1,311.90 per kg in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions on increased demand in the spot market against restricted arrivals.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in May rose by Rs 25.30, or 1.97 per cent, to Rs 1,311.90 per kg, with a business volume of a single lot.

Likewise, the spice for delivery in March contract moved up by Rs 14.30, or 1.18 per cent, to Rs 1,231.10 per kg with a business volume of one lot.

Market analysts attributed the rise in cardamom futures prices to a strong demand at the spot market, powered by the ongoing marriage season.

Less arrivals from southern producing region influenced the trading sentiment, they said.
