Cardamom fell by Rs 1.40 to Rs 635.40 per kg in futures trade today as speculators booked profits at existing higher levels amid weak demand in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in January declined by Rs 1.40, or 0.22%, to Rs 635.40 per kg, with an open interest for 36 lots.

In a similar fashion, the spice for December contract delivery shed 70 paise, or 0.12%, to Rs 594.50 per kg in 116 lots.

Traders said besides profit-booking by speculators at prevailing higher levels, subdued demand in the spot market led to the decline in cardamom prices in futures trade.
