Cardamom futures prices tumbled by 3%, or Rs 17.70, to Rs 570.70 per kg today, after speculators reduced their positions amid subdued demand in the domestic markets.

However, improved export demand limited the fall. In April-October 2011, the combined exports of cardamom, small and large, rose 239.7% on year to 2,650 tonnes.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, January cardamom plunged by Rs 17.70, or 3%, to Rs 570.70 per kg, with a business turnover of 742 lots.

The February delivery also fell by Rs 18.10, or 2.94%, to Rs 597.10 per kg, with a trading volume of 221 lots, while March contract prices eased by Rs 17.90, or 2.77%, to Rs 626 per kg, clocking a business volume of 76 lots.

Marketmen said fall in demand in spot market at prevailing higher levels mainly put pressure on cardamom futures prices but rising export demand, restricted losses.
