Supported by strong spot demand, cardamom hit the upper limit by Rs 68.70, or 4 per cent at Rs 1,786.20 per kg in futures trade today.

Tight stocks in physical markets followed by fall in supplies from the producing belts also influenced the cardamom prices at futures market here.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, cardamom for June contract surged by Rs 68.70 or 4 per cent to hit the upper circuit at Rs 1,786.20 per kg, with a turnover of 676 lots.

Similarly, the delivery in July, August and September contract also spurted by 4 per cent (upper circuit) to Rs 1,614.70, Rs 1,565.50 and Rs 1,497.70 per kg, respectively.

Market analysts attributed the rise in cardamom futures prices to strong demand in physical markets amid low stocks.
