Cardamom prices rose by Rs 17.50, or 1.60 per cent, to Rs 1,114.50 per kg in futures trade today on speculators buying influenced by spot market demand for the ongoing festive season.
Restricted arrivals from producing regions also supported the rise in prices.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, cardamom for October contract rose by Rs 17.50, or 1.60 per cent, to Rs 1,114.50 per kg, with a trading volume of 128 lots, while November delivery surged by Rs 10.80, or 1.06 per cent, to Rs 1,030 per kg, with a business turnover of 30 lots.
The spice for September contract gained by Rs 3.90, or 0.32 per cent, to Rs 1,220 per kg, with an open interest of 229 lots.
Traders said pick up in demand in the spot market due to ongoing festive season, mainly attributed to the rise in cardamom prices at futures market.
They said, restricted arrivals from southern region too supported the uptrend in prices.
