Cardamom prices rose Rs 24.70, or 2.05 per cent to Rs 1,227 per kg in futures trading today as traders enlarged positions largely on the back of strong spot demand in the market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, cardamom for October month contract surged by Rs 24.70 or 2.05 per cent to Rs 1,227 per kg, with a turnover of 231 lots.

Cardamom for August delivery rose by Rs 18.60 or 1.08 per cent to Rs 1,730 per kg in 204 lots. Similarly, the delivery in September contract also inched up by Rs 11.90 or 0.92 per cent to Rs 1,301 per kg in a business volume of 605 lots.

Analysts said strong demand against tight arrivals at the physical markets continued to support the rise in cardamom prices in futures trading here.
