Cardamom prices rose for the third straight day by gaining Rs 12.80 to Rs 976.90 per kg in futures trade today as speculators hiked positions driven by rising demand in the spot market.

Some export enquiries and restricted arrivals from producing belts further fuelled the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, the January contract gained Rs 12.80, or 1.33% to Rs 976.90 per kg in business turnover of 245 lots.

In a similar fashion, the spice for delivery in December contract traded higher by Rs 8.80, or 0.99 per cent to Rs 897 per kg in 891 lots.

Market analysts said speculative positions created by participants on the back rising demand in the spot market mainly kept cardamom futures remain firm for the third day.

They said some export enquiries and restricted arrivals from producing region also supported the upswing.
