Cardamom prices rose by Rs 17 or 1.18 per cent at Rs 1,544 per kg in futures trade today on the back of pick up in demand in spot markets.

Restricted arrivals from producing regions also supported the rise in prices. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for June-month contract rose by Rs 17 or 1.18 per cent to Rs 1,448.90 per kg in a trading volume of 148 lots.

The spice of July-month contract gained by Rs 16.10 or 1.13 per cent to Rs 1,440.10 per kg in 32 lots, while May month contract inched up by Rs 7.50 or 0.48 per cent to Rs 1,544 per kg, with the open interest of 31 lots.

Traders said, pick up in demand in the spot market against restricted arrivals from producing regions mainly led to a rise in cardamom prices at futures market.
