Cardamom surges 2.04% on rising demand

Traders create fresh positions amid lower arrivals from producing regions

Cardamom prices rose by 2.04 per cent to Rs 697.10 per kg in futures trade today after speculators created positions amid higher demand at the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for the January contracts rose Rs 14, or 2.04 per cent, to Rs 697.10 per kg, with a trading volume of 622 lots.

The spice for delivery in February higher by Rs 8.80, or 1.23 per cent, to Rs 719.30 per kg, with a business volume of 143 lots.

Market analysts said rising demand in the spot spot market against restricted arrivals from producing regions, mainly influenced cardamom prices at futures market.
