Cardamom prices fell by Rs 29, or 1.88 per cent, to Rs 1,537 per kg in futures trade today, as speculators booked profits at higher levels amid subdued demand in the spot market.

Increased arrivals from the producing regions also put pressure on cardamom prices in futures trade.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, cardamom for September contract declined by Rs 29, or 1.88 per cent, to Rs 1,537 per kg, with a business turnover of 109 lots.

The spice for delivery in July-month eased by Rs 16.40, or 0.88 per cent, to Rs 1,845 per kg, with a trading volume of 45 lots, while August contract moved down by Rs 14.10, or 0.83 per cent, to Rs 1,681 per kg, with a business volume of 121 lots.

Marketmen said, besides profit taking by speculators at existing prices, fall in demand in spot markets also put pressure on cardamom prices at futures market here.
