Cardamom prices fell by Rs 39.60, or 3.00 per cent, to Rs 1,278.50 per kg in futures trading today, as speculators preferred to book profits, triggered by subdued demand in the spot market.
Increased arrivals from the producing regions also put pressure on the cardamom prices in futures trade.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, cardamom for September contract declined by Rs 39.60, or three per cent, to Rs 1,278.50 per kg, with a business turnover of 213 lots.
The spice for delivery in November-month eased by Rs 20.60, or 1.83 per cent, to Rs 1,107 per kg, with a trading volume of 33 lots, while October contract moved down by Rs 13.30, or 1.11 per cent, to Rs 1,185 per kg, with a business turnover of 158 lots.
Marketmen said, besides, profit taking by speculators at existing higher prices, fall in demand in spot market also put pressure on cardamom prices at futures market.
