Chana prices rose by Rs 29, or 1.34 per cent at Rs 2,186 per quintal in futures trading today after speculators enlarged their positions, driven by pick up in spot demand for the current marriage season.

Restricted arrivals at spot markets from the producing regions of Rajasthan and Gujarat supported the uptrend in futures trade.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, chana for July contract rose Rs 29, or 1.34 per cent, to Rs 2,186 per quintal with a business volume of 45 lots.

Similarly, the chana for delivery in August contract traded Rs 28, or 1.27 per cent higher to Rs 2,230 per quintal, with an open interest of 19 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions created by speculators, followed by pick up in demand in the spot market for the current marriage season, influenced the chana prices in futures trade here.
