Chana prices moved up by Rs 12 to Rs 4,730 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators enlarged positions, driven by the pick up in spot market demand, supported by the festive season.

Tight supplies in the physical market following less arrivals from producing belts fuelled the uptrend.

At the National Commodity Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in August rose by Rs 12, or 0.25%, to Rs 4,730 per quintal, with an open interest of 4,100 lots.

September chana edged up by Rs 3, or 0.06%, to Rs 4,831 per quintal in 95,320 lots.

Marketmen said speculators enlarged their positions, driven by the pick up in demand in the spot market in view of the festive season amid thin supply, leading to the rise in chana futures.
