Supported by a rising demand in the spot market, chana prices rose further by Rs 40 to Rs 4,797 per quintal in futures trade today on speculators enlarging their positions.
Restricted arrivals in the physical market due to lower estimated output also influenced the chana prices.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for September delivery moved up by 40, or 0.84%, to Rs 4,797 per quintal, with an open interest of 15,020 lots.
October chana edged up by Rs 17, or 0.34%, to Rs 4,880 per quintal, with open interest of 1,02,880 lots.
Traders said fresh positions created by speculators, triggered by the rise in demand at the spot market ahead of festive season, helped chana prices to rise at the futures market here.
