Chana prices rose by Rs 3 to Rs 3,319 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions, driven by a pick-up in demand in the spot market.

However, reports of higher acreage under cultivation in the ongoing sowing season restricted the gains.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, January chana rose by Rs 3, or 0.09%, to Rs 3,319 per quintal, with an open interest for 1,50,600 lots.

The December contract was trading higher by Rs 2, or 0.06%, at Rs 3,215 per quintal in 51,650 lots.

Market analysts said speculators enlarging their positions following a pick-up in demand in the spot market led to the rise in chana futures prices.
