Chilli prices fell by 1.47% to Rs 4,944 per quintal in futures trade today as traders indulged in reducing positions, triggered by estimates of higher output in the current year.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chilli for delivery in November fell by Rs 74, or 1.47%, to Rs 4,944 per quintal, with an open interest of 7,255 lots.

October chilli shed Rs 20, or 0.37%, to Rs 5,420 per quintal in 3,750 lots.

Marketmen attributed the fall in chilli prices at futures market to speculators reducing their positions on higher output estimate in the current year.
