Chilli prices gained 1.85% to Rs 5,618 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators enlarged their positions, tracking a firming trend at the spot market on pick-up in demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, the April contract for chilli rose by Rs 102, or 1.85%, to Rs 5,618 per quintal, with a business turnover of 1,705 lots.

The March contract moved up by Rs 72, or 1.34%, to Rs 5,430 per quintal, with an open interest of 4,005 lots.

Market analysts said apart from rising demand in the spot market due to the marriage season, restricted arrivals from producing region led to rise in chilli prices at futures market.
