Chilli, pepper prices fall on subdued demand

Red chilli and black pepper prices fell by Rs 200 per quintal in the national capital today, due to weak local and export demand at existing higher prices.

Red chilli fell by Rs 200 to settle at Rs 6,700-11,900 per quintal.

Black pepper prices also traded lower at Rs 22,700-22,800 against previous closing of Rs 22,900-23,000 per quintal.

Market analysts said reduced offtake by stockists and exporters at existing higher levels mainly pulled down chilli and pepper prices.

Following are today's quotations (per quintal):

Ajwain 16,000-19,500, black pepper common 22,700-22,800 betelnut (kg) 120-145, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 1,300-1,500 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 1,400-1,600

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 1,450-1,650, cardamom (colour robin) 1,550-1,600, cardamom bold 1,400-1,600, cardamom extra (bold) 1,650-1,700 and cloves (kg) 330-400
