Chilli prices fell by Rs 70 to Rs 5,218 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators offloaded their positions on the back of sluggish demand at prevailing higher levels in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chilli for delivery in December fell by Rs 70, or 1.32 per cent to Rs 5,218 per quintal with an open interest of 5245 lots.

The March contract lost Rs 62, or 0.96 per cent to Rs 6430 per quintal in 2,190 lots.

Market experts said speculators offloaded their positions, tracking a weak trend at the spot market. Subdued demand at prevailing higher levels mainly influenced chilli futures.
