Chilli prices rose by Rs 88 to Rs 5,306 per quintal in futures trade today as traders created fresh positions driven by pick-up in spot market demand.

Restricted arrivals from producing belt further fuelled the uptrend in chilli prices.

At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, chilli for delivery in March rose by Rs 88, or 1.69%, to Rs 5,306 per quintal, with an open interest of 3,245 lots.

February chilli gained Rs 52, or 1%, to Rs 5,240 per quintal, with an open interest of 1,205 lots.

Market experts said besides fresh buying by traders, restricted arrivals from producing region mainly helped chilli prices to trade higher at futures market.
