Shares of cigarette makers such as ITC, Godfrey Phillips India and VST Industries are trading lower by up to 5% on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
ITC has dipped 3% to Rs 325 after a huge block deal executed on the counter. Till 10:15 AM, a combined 4.28 million shares have already changed hands on the counter against an average sub seven million shares that were traded daily in past two weeks on the NSE and BSE.
Among the other individual stocks, Godfrey Phillips India has dipped 5% to Rs 1,493, while VST Industries down 2% at Rs 1,650.
Meanwhile, the committee headed by Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian on rates of the goods and services tax (GST) recommended tobacco industry will have to pay more taxes towards an additional ‘sin tax’.CLICK HERE TO READ FULL REPORT.
