Coal India extends gain ahead of interim dividend

The board approved payment of interim dividend of Rs 29 per share. The stock will turn ex-dividend tomorrow.

Coal India is trading higher by 3% at Rs 304, extending its previous day’s 2% gain, ahead of the record date for the receipt of an interim dividend of Rs 29 per share. The stock will be quoted ex-dividend from tomorrow.

The board of directors of the company at meeting held on January 14, 2014 approved payment of interim dividend of Rs 29 per share for the financial year ending March 2014. The board has set January 20 as the record date for the interim dividend.

The stock opened at Rs 297 and hit a low of Rs 293 in early morning deals on the NSE. The counter has seen heavy trading activity with a combined 16.12 million shares changed hands till 1515 hours against an average sub 5 million shares that were traded daily in past two weeks on the BSE and NSE.
