Cold weather conditions in the northern region, aided by widespread drizzle, are likely to help increase productivity of pulses this season, agricultural experts said today.

“Weather conditions are conducive for winter crops. We are expecting increased productivity especially in chickpea (chana) and lentils this season,” said N Nadarajan, director of Kanpur-based Indian Institute of Pulse Research.

Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana are among major chickpea growing states. Lentil or masur is grown mainly in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal.
