Tracking a weak global trend, copper prices softened by 0.11% to Rs 452.40 per kg in futures trade today as speculators trimmed their positions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in November softened by 50 paise, or 0.11%, to Rs 452.40 per kg, with a business turnover of 19,857 lots.

The February contract traded lower by the same margin to Rs 457.15 per kg, with a business turnover of 16 lots.

Marketmen said positions offloaded by speculators in tandem with a weak global trend led to the decline in copper prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months declined 0.4% to $8,060 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
