Copper down 1% on weak global cue

Copper for delivery in August contract declined by 0.91%

Copper prices fell by 1% to Rs 399.40 per kg in futures trade today as speculators trimmed their positions, tracking a weak global trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in June month fell by Rs 4.05, or 1.00%, to Rs 399.40 per kg in business turnover of 17,150 lots.

In a similar fashion, copper for delivery in August contract declined by Rs 3.70, or 0.91%, to Rs 403.40 per kg in 4053 lots.

Market analysts said speculators trimmed their positions in line with a weak global trend on concern that slower growth in China, the biggest user, will damp metals demand mainly pulled down copper prices at futures trade.
 
Meanwhile, copper fell 1.2% to 6,713.50 dollar a metric ton on the London Metal Exchange.
